Micro/nanofabrication and probing surface plasmons by ultrafast pulses

报告人简介:

Dr. Quan Sun received his bachelor and Master degree in 2000 and 2006 in Beijing University, respectively. He has been working as Postdoctoral Fellow at Laval university of Canada and Hokkaido University of Japan. Since April 2016, he joined Research Institute for Electronic Science of Hokkaido University as an Assistant Professor. Now, his main research interests are nano photonics, nonlinear optics, laser micro-nano fabrication.

摘要:

So far, ultrafast lasers have been widely used for micro/nano-fabrication in various materials. In the first part of this talk, after briefly reviewing the femtosecond laser micro/nanofabrication and their applications, I focus on femtosecond direct laser writing (DLW) of three-dimensional (3D) photonic crystals in resists and how we engineer the stop bands into visible region making use of the material shrinkage Plasmonics is a rapidly developing research field and it deals with the interaction between electromagnetic field and free electrons in metals. For examples, metallic nanostructures can enable the localization of electromagnetic fields on nanometer length scales resulted from localized surface plasmon resonances (LSPRs). In the second part of this talk, I introduce the applications of femtosecond laser pulses in probing LSPRs using photoemission electron microscopy (PEEM). In particular, the near-field properties of coupled plasmonic structures, such as gold dolmen, are discussed.
